BlackBerry Curve 9360 with OS 7
When we first got our hands on the mid range BlackBerry Curve 9360 we must say we were very impressed with its build quality and its looks. The phone is a very slim device for a BlackBerry and the price and has a lovely curved edge which means it fits beautifully into the hand. With the new operating system, the 9360 is one of the best BlackBerry phone deals to feature in the affordable Curve for series for many years.
The device is curved in many parts and comes with a lovely mix of quality looking black plastic and a metallic finish. This means the phone looks great and will be the envy of others. The devices key board is also very well put together and we found typing on it to be very satisfying, especially compared to many other phones with QWERTY boards out there.
The device has a 2.44in screen ,which has a resolution of 480x320p though is a bit disappointing as it is not a touch screen in 2011 – something that won’t make it popular when it is put up against an Android phone. We found the track pad to be accurate all the same and couldn’t say we have had any problems with it.
Similarly the processor is nothing special, it is an 800MHz chip, though we didn’t get excited about it, we couldn’t say we were bitterly disappointed with it. It manages to deal with the whole processing of the basics without lag quite well and doesn’t seem to really have too many problems. Multitasking and gaming may throw up a challenge we suspect and wouldn’t advise too much of it.
The phone comes with a 5mp camera which we found to be a good still and video taking camera – it takes movies at 720p. This all was fine though looked a little unexciting on the small screen. The BBM worked fine as it does on all BlackBerrys and we expect that is BlackBerry is marketing this phone at the youth market it will do so with BBM pushed to the fore of its marketing strategy as it allows free texts and messaging to others with a BlackBerry phone.
The phone comes with the BlackBerry OS7, which is not as good as android but all the same quite capable and most kids will find it to be quite adequate.
Overall the BlackBerry 9360 seems to be quite a decent device. It feels and looks nice and has decent performance and we imagine this will be enough to help it achieve popularity, especially among teenagers.
